Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry

For many patients, visiting the dentist is stressful. Almost every patient fears dental treatment and worries about pain. However, modern dentistry methods are now painless and comfortable. We owe this comfort to various forms of anesthesia – from local to general.

At our practice, we emphasize patient care and their smile. Anesthesia is always chosen by the doctor individually, taking into account the condition of the body, the purpose and type of procedure. The goal is for the anesthesia to be effective, appropriate, and safe.

How does dental treatment under anesthesia work?

How does dental treatment under anesthesia work?

The goal of treatment under general anesthesia or sedation is to provide you with maximum comfort and safety, and to eliminate all stress and fear. The entire process is carefully planned and takes place under the constant supervision of an experienced anesthesiology team. The process can be divided into three main phases.

The goal of treatment under general anesthesia or sedation is to provide you with maximum comfort and safety, and to eliminate all stress and fear. The entire process is carefully planned and takes place under the constant supervision of an experienced anesthesiology team. The process can be divided into three main phases.

Phase 1: Preparatory Phase – Consultation and Planning

Safety is our absolute priority, which is why thorough preparation is essential.

Initial Consultation and Treatment Plan

First, you will have a consultation with a dentist. They will perform a complete examination, including taking necessary X-rays (OPG, 3D CBCT), and create a detailed plan of all the procedures that need to be performed. You will know exactly what will happen and what the financial budget will be.

Anesthesiology Pre-Operative Examination

Next, you will have a consultation with an anesthesiologist. They will discuss your overall health, medications you are taking, allergies, and answer any questions you may have regarding anesthesia. The goal is to ensure that this form of treatment is completely safe for you.

Instructions Before the Procedure

You will receive clear instructions that you must follow before the procedure. Typically, this involves not eating or drinking for a specified period (usually 6 hours) before anesthesia. It is also essential to arrange transportation home after the procedure.
Phase 2: On the Day of the Procedure – Safety and Comfort First

On the day of treatment, our entire team will take care of you.

Arrival and Preparation

Upon arrival at the clinic, you will be taken care of by our anesthesiology team. They will explain everything to you again and answer any last questions you may have.

Introduction to Anesthesia

The anesthesiologist will insert a thin cannula into your vein through which medications are administered. Within seconds you will gently and calmly fall asleep. You won’t feel anything, hear anything, or remember anything.

The Course of Dental Treatment

While you sleep peacefully, the dental team will perform all planned procedures – from cavity treatment and endodontics to extractions or implant placement. The goal is to solve all problems at once.

Continuous Monitoring

Throughout the entire procedure, you are connected to a monitor that tracks your vital signs (heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and blood oxygen levels). The anesthesiologist is by your side throughout the procedure, ensuring its smooth and safe course.
Phase 3: Post-Procedure – Awakening and Aftercare

Even after the procedure is finished, you will continue to be cared for.

Awakening (Recovery)

After the dental treatment is completed, the anesthesiologist will stop administering medications and you will gently begin to wake up in a quiet recovery room, still under the supervision of medical staff.

Check-up and Discharge

Once you feel well and the anesthesiologist determines that everything is okay, you will be discharged to home care. It is absolutely essential to have transportation arranged! After anesthesia, you must not drive a car or perform activities requiring increased attention for 24 hours.

Instructions for Home Care

You will receive detailed instructions on how to care for the treated areas, what pain medication to take and what to eat and drink. Contact information is also provided in case of any questions or problems.

The result is a completely treated dentition without stress, fear and unpleasant experiences, all during a single visit.
